Card payments
for barbers.

Chairs, walk-ins and a card machine that has to work between one client leaving and the next sitting down. Barbers get sold terminal leases they don’t need, on contracts longer than most shop leases.

What matters here

Three things barbers keep telling us.

  • One machine, or no machine

Most shops need a single point of payment, not a countertop system. Tap to Pay on the phone already in your apron works, and if you want a proper reader it's £29 and it's yours.

  • Tips without the awkwardness

Add a tip prompt at the point of payment so nobody has to fumble for change or decide how to ask.

  • Deposits stop no-shows

Send a payment link when you book a longer appointment. An empty chair on a Saturday costs more than any card fee.

Questions

What barbers ask

Do I need a card machine for a barber shop?

Not necessarily. Tap to Pay on iPhone or Android turns the phone you already own into a contactless card reader, so a barber shop can take Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay with no hardware at all. A card reader is available for £29 as a one-off purchase if you'd rather have a separate machine on the counter, or a traditional countertop machine on your own Verofy account. There is no rental from us and no requirement to buy anything.

How much does it cost a barber shop to take card payments?

Every Cheekypayments plan charges Stripe's published rate of 1.4% + 10p per in-person payment on UK and EEA cards. For a typical barber shop taking £9,000 a month across roughly 500 sales at an average of £18, that is about £178.95 in card fees. On the Pro plan (£19 a month) the total is about £197.95 — an effective rate of 2.20%.

Can barbers take card payments without a card machine?

Yes. Tap to Pay on iPhone and Android turns a phone you already own into a contactless card reader, accepting Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay with no extra hardware. It is included on every Cheekypayments plan, including the free one. A card reader is available for £29 as a one-off purchase if you would rather have a separate machine, or a traditional countertop machine on your own Verofy account.

How quickly does a barber shop get the money?

Payouts run daily once your account is verified. How quickly a given sale lands depends on your account's schedule. It is the same on every plan. Money taken on a card is settled to your own bank account rather than held in a separate balance you have to withdraw from.
