Is there a setup fee with Cheekypayments?+
No. Cheekypayments charges no setup fee, no joining fee and no annual fee on any plan. The only optional cost is a card reader at £29, which is a one-off purchase rather than a rental. A countertop machine on a Verofy account is priced separately and agreed with you first.
Which Cheekypayments plan is cheapest?+
Starter, at £0 a month. Unlike most providers, moving up a plan does not lower the card rate, because the rate is Stripe's published rate on every plan. Pay for Pro or Scale only if you want what they include: the till's hospitality features, more users and locations, invoicing, multi-site and support you can phone.
Do the paid plans get a lower card rate?+
No. Every plan pays 1.4% + 10p in person on UK and EEA cards and 1.5% + 20p online on standard UK cards, which are Stripe's published UK rates. Pro and Scale add software and support, not a discount on processing.
What about non-UK and premium cards?+
In person, non-EEA cards are 2.9% + 10p. Online, premium UK cards are 1.9% + 20p, EEA cards 2.5% + 20p and international cards 3.25% + 20p, plus 2% where a payment is converted from another currency. These are Stripe's published UK rates, checked on 2026-09-12.
Can I switch plans later?+
Yes. You can move up or down a plan at any time from your Cheekypayments dashboard, and the change takes effect on your next billing date. There is no fee for switching.
What does annual billing save?+
Paying annually saves 20% on the plan fee. Pro drops from £19 to the equivalent of £15.20 a month, and Scale from £79 to £63.20. Annual plans also include the £29 card reader at no charge. Card rates are the same either way.
Are there any hidden fees?+
No. Cheekypayments does not charge PCI compliance fees, monthly minimums, authorisation fees, statement fees, terminal rental or refund fees. Chargebacks are passed through at cost, currency conversion is Stripe's published 2%, and both are shown on the transaction in your dashboard.
